Skirball Cultural Center

Working at the Skirball

The Skirball is a place where people of all communities can find meaning and purpose in what they do. Rooted in Jewish values and inspired by the American democratic ideals of freedom and equality, the organization has defined itself by a deep commitment to pluralism, inclusivity, and cross-cultural exchange. The Skirball has experienced significant growth and transformation during the last two decades, including multiple expansions of its campus and programs, broadening its impact, and establishing itself as the largest Jewish cultural institution in the nation.

We are a dedicated and diverse group of nearly four hundred employees, evenly split between full- and part-time, with an average tenure of more than seven years. If you would like to join a team that values all people, this is the place.

Employee Council

Human Resources occasionally convenes an ad hoc employee council as part of our strategic planning efforts. The goal of the employee council is to provide the organization with recommendations to ensure policies, benefits, and professional development opportunities are clearly communicated and understood. This is an excellent opportunity for employees to help shape the Skirball’s future and to be a voice for their coworkers.

Internships

As an extension of our educational programs, the Skirball offers a number of college internships throughout the year. Working with organizations such as the Getty Foundation, the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs, and UCLA School of Law, we expose interns to job opportunities available in the arts and culture sector and provide practical, hands-on experience working in departments such as Communications and Marketing, Education and Family Programs, Public Programs, General Counsel, and more.

When available, internship opportunities are posted on the Skirball website.

Docent and Volunteer Opportunities

Looking for other ways to get involved? Docents and volunteers freely offer their time and energy to support the Skirball by welcoming visitors and sharing information about our latest exhibitions and programs.

Docents and volunteers also enjoy appreciation gatherings and events and participate in adult education classes relevant to Museum exhibitions and Jewish values to remain well-informed.

Q: Tell us about a past or present exhibition you enjoyed and why.

A: In 2019, Skirball hosted Black Is Beautiful: The Photography of Kwame Brathwaite. I love how Brathwaite's photography celebrated Black women and instilled a sense of pride throughout the community.
