Banquet Manager, Hospitality and Private Events
The Skirball Cultural Center seeks a capable and conscientious Banquet Manager. Reporting to the Senior Catering Manager, this position is responsible for helping to oversee catering operations through the development and completion of all events.
Starting salary: $70,000/year
Responsibilities:
- Ensure the recruitment and training of team members in our standards and procedures
- Receive banquet event orders (BEOs) and determine proper staffing; ensure all food and service activities comply with BEOs, health and fire code requirements, and Jewish dietary laws, as requested
- Organize day-of event needs with the Event Coordinator and establish and implement day-of event schedules
- Plan, organize, and assign employee responsibilities to meet client needs
- Provide on-site supervision and coordination during events; act as liaison between clients and employees prior to and during events; provide goods and services during events, ensuring smooth efficient operations
- Represent the Skirball to guests; resolve problems quickly and efficiently; ensure service quality and standards
- Act as liaison between catering employees and Skirball employees in other departments
- Help maintain inventory supplies and proper equipment; ensure maintenance of stock areas for neatness and efficiency; report ordering needs to Senior Catering Manager
- Supervise performance of on-call employees; recommend disciplinary action when needed; help provide on-the-job training to ensure employees offer appropriate service; follow up to ensure compliance
- Assist Senior Catering Manager with managing tabulating payroll on ADP
- Maintain petty cash for cash bars, carts, and catering needs; follow procedures for balancing cash and submitting reports as scheduled
- Develop and maintain professional and managerial skills through participation in workshops and conferences, further education, and researching professional literature
Qualifications, Experience, and Attributes:
- 2+ years of experience in a food and beverage operational position
- Must have a current California Food Handler’s Certificate and ABC Certification
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently, as a team player, and cross-functionally with all other departments
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays

Line Cook, Hospitality and Private Events

Starting salary: $19 per hour
Responsibilities
- Prepares or directs preparation of regular hot, cold, and special diet foods according to prescribed menus, plans, and recipes
- Follows established schedule in cooking, baking, sanitation, and related activities
- Determines proper cooking time and temperature
- Operates broiler, ovens, grills, fryers, and a variety of other kitchen equipment
- Cleans and sanitizes all food preparation equipment and ensures that it is kept in a safe and operable condition

Reporting to the Executive Chef, the Dishwasher is responsible for cleaning a wide variety of food preparation and service items in accordance with Health Department sanitation and safety standards. The Dishwasher will also help with routine food preparation.

Responsibilities
- Washes and dries dishes, glasses, utensils, pots and pans, and related food preparation/serving items and equipment
- Loads and operates the dishwasher per approved guidelines
- Maintains all cleaning/washing equipment at proper temperature and in proper operating order; loads equipment correctly; checks temperature per approved schedule and adjusts as needed; disassembles, inspects, cleans, performs maintenance on, and reassembles equipment properly
- Checks all items for cleanliness and stores clean, dry items and equipment in proper places

On-Call Porter
The Operations department of the Skirball Cultural Center seeks a capable, self-motivated, attentive, detail-oriented individual for the position of Porter. This person is responsible for maintaining public, office, and surrounding facilities in clean and orderly condition to meet health and safety standards. They will also be required to set up and take down furniture and equipment for special events and meetings in accordance with design plans. This is a variable-hour, on-call position. The schedule for this position is based on scheduled programs and private events. This position reports to the Senior Facilities Supervisor.
Starting salary: $19 per hour
Responsibilities:
Maintenance
- Sweeps, mops, scrubs, waxes, and vacuums Museum exhibit spaces, hallways, stairs, restrooms, and office spaces; cleans furniture and fixtures; washes walls, windows, doors, and equipment.
- Empties trash and garbage containers.
- Cleans/sweeps parking lots, walkways, and surrounding areas to ensure they are free of debris.
- Operates minor cleaning equipment and uses biologically and environmentally safe cleaning agents in accordance with safety instructions.
Notifies supervisor concerning hazardous conditions in or repairs needed to facilities or equipment.
Events/Meetings
- Sets up tables, chairs, stands, boxes, equipment, etc. in accordance with pre-determined design plans.
- Breaks down event and meeting set-ups and stores furniture and other equipment; ensures furniture and equipment is clean and ready for future use.
- Cleans event areas (e.g., mops, sweeps, vacuums) as needed, to ensure area is clean and ready for the next event or meeting.

Qualifications:
- Demonstrated skill in institutional housekeeping

- Ability to read and comprehend documents such as safety rules, cleaning chemical instructions, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals

Responsibilities:
- Appropriately set tables for meals, including sanitizing and setting up items such as linens, silverware, and glasses
- Clear dishes and glasses and take them to scullery for cleaning
- Maintain cleanliness in the front and back of the house
- Provide courteous and friendly customer service to all diners
- Assist serving food orders during peak hours; serve beverages and bread for the table
- Set up bus station with glasses, silverware, napkins, and additional service ware; ensure glasses and silverware are spot free and polished before they are set on the table

Payroll Specialist, Finance and Human Resources
The Skirball Cultural Center seeks a self-motivated, detail-oriented, and flexible team player for the position of Payroll Specialist. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer and working with the Accounts Payable Accountant to accomplish biweekly payroll responsibilities, this position oversees and directs payroll procedures, including processing new hires, terminations, pay increases, and other payroll-related changes; ensuring accuracy of payroll data as well as reporting tied to payroll operations; collaborating with Finance and HR, managers, and employees to answer payroll questions and provide timely changes and updates; and staying updated on changes to payroll tax law and wage and hour-related payroll laws.
Salary range: $60,000–80,000
Responsibilities:
- Input/update employee payroll data relative to new employment, terminations, status changes, and benefits into the Human Resources Information System in a timely/accurate manner (e.g., tax withholding, garnishments, pay changes, direct deposit, benefit deduction changes)
- Manage payroll and timekeeping systems
- Ensure compliance with relevant laws and policies
- Collaborate with HR and Finance teams on matters related to payroll including compliance with relevant laws and policies
- Develop trainings and periodic refreshers for employees; work with ADP representatives to organize ADP online trainings for more robust and best practices needs
- Ensure appropriate controls are in place and periodically tested and reevaluated; recommend process improvements and controls
- Work with employees and managers to resolve payroll issues and answer questions related to payroll

- Work with auditors and other vendors on any reporting or data collection related to payroll and other financial reporting
- Prepare financial statements related to payroll data; assist in monthly and year-end financial reporting and analysis
Qualifications, Experience, and Attributes:
- 3+ years of experience managing payroll
- Personal computer skills including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint as well as database programs and/or specific HRIS/payroll experience (ADP Workforce Now experience strongly preferred)

Project Director, Core Renewal Project
The Skirball Cultural Center seeks a Project Director, Core Renewal Project through Fall 2030. Reporting to the President and CEO, this position will lead the development and day-to-day management of the Skirball’s reimagined core exhibition—managing the conceptualization, design, and implementation—that will attract and engage a diverse audience, build relationships with those who share the organization’s values, and provide a one-of-a-kind experience that distinguishes the Skirball among Jewish and other cultural institutions in Los Angeles and around the world.
Starting salary: $120,000+ DOE
Responsibilities:
- Manage and facilitate the planning, production, and implementation of the core exhibition in accordance with complex timelines, budgets, and professional museum practices
- Supervise and coordinate the work of all internal and external contributors in the execution of the complex and diverse aspects of the exhibition
- Serve as the liaison with Board committees, lead interdepartmental staff-led planning, and coordinate with advisory and stakeholder groups
- Commission audience research, feedback, and input throughout the exhibition development; integrate findings into the design and production
- Analyze, assess, and make recommendations regarding the feasibility and value of exhibition concepts; provide direction and guidance in their development; collaborate with contributors to develop exhibition parameters
- Develop and manage budgets and timelines
- Audit exhibit components regularly to ensure the final product is in line with the organization’s accessibility, educational messaging, and design standards and appropriately addresses sensitive and controversial issues
- Oversee production, fabrication, installation, and quality control of the exhibition
- Partner with key staff across the institution to ensure the successful integration of all tasks and impacts
- Participate in donor meetings, walk-throughs, and briefings

Qualifications, Experience, and Attributes:
- 15+ years of relevant experience planning and overseeing major exhibitions and a demonstrated background in conceptualizing, planning, and implementing public-facing experiences and operations for diverse audiences
- Track record of creating highly interactive and engaging experiences that meet organizational vision, programmatic goals, and deliver audience and evaluation metrics
- Extensive knowledge of museum standards and practices including working knowledge of legal and ethical aspects of presenting religious content, personal and community stories, and material culture
- Expertise with financial management, budgeting, and risk management; experience managing exhibition budgets in excess of $10M
- Exceptional track record of developing, maintaining, communicating, and successfully managing complex schedules, critical deadlines, a wide range of producers and collaborators, and significant risks to schedule and budget
- Proven experience building and managing teams
