About the Program

Join artist Aram Han Sifuentes and Skirball curator Laura Mart as they discuss the Skirball’s first online exhibition, The Official Unofficial Voting Station: Voting for All Who Legally Can’t. Learn about Sifuentes’s nationwide project to both raise awareness of voter disenfranchisement and capture the voices of those who are unable to vote in US elections—including youth under 18, residents of US territories, and, in some states, incarcerated and formerly incarcerated people. Sifuentes's playful and open approach helps underline a pressing question: what would our democracy look like if those who cannot vote could? Reflect on whose voices are valued in American democracy, reimagine voting accessibility, and expand your knowledge of US history as we explore how voting rights have changed—and continue to change—over the last two and a half centuries of our nation’s existence.
