About the Program
Join legendary South Indian musician L. Shankar for a rare West Coast performance. Born into a musical family, Shankar has been performing since he was seven years old, dazzling audiences with his Carnatic vocals and violin playing.
Known for fusing Eastern and Western musical traditions, Shankar has collaborated with rock legends Frank Zappa, Peter Gabriel, the Talking Heads, and many others. Fans of 1970s Indo-jazz will remember him as a cofounder of the popular band Shakti. In the decades since Shakti’s run, Shankar has released more than two dozen solo albums, including a full-length record in 2020, Chepleeri Dream.
“[L. Shankar] has worked with the biggest names in rock and pop and shown them what Indian raga music is all about.”—Times of India
