About the Program
Make deep connections to the Jewish holiday of Tu B'Shevat (New Year of the Trees). This daylong celebration centers on agricultural and spiritual themes while reflecting on gratitude for the natural world. Enjoy music, food, conversation, guided walking tours, art making, and more.
Festival to include:
Tu B'Shevat Seder
Enjoy the bounty of locally-sourced and sustainably-harvested fruit, nuts, seeds, herbs, wines, and juices as you explore the ancient Jewish wisdom of the “Four Worlds.” This beautiful family-friendly journey throughout the campus involves observing and engaging our senses while celebrating stewardship.
Family Art Studio–Spice Containers
Learn about the ceremony of Havdalah and prepare for a sweet week ahead by decorating and filling a container with spices sourced from local Shemesh Farms.
Gallery Tour + Artists Talk
Artists Tiffany Shlain and Ken Goldberg guide you on a tour through their exhibition Ancient Wisdom for a Future Ecology: Trees, Time, and Technology, followed by a sit-down conversation on the connection between math and nature. The exhibition explores the complex history, diverse cultural tapestry, and dynamic landscape of Los Angeles while fostering community reflection on the role we all share in shaping a more inclusive and sustainable future.
Campus Walking Tours
Come learn about the incredible diversity of trees right here at the Skirball led by Senior Vice President, Operations, Ben Elisondo, or take a meditative walking tour around the campus with mindfulness instructor Mark Landsman.
Music/Dance/Poetry Pop-ups
See and hear instruments made from trees with special guests.
