About the Program

Writers Bloc Presents® and the Skirball present lauded author Margaret Atwood as she discusses The Testaments—the gripping sequel to her groundbreaking feminist allegory, The Handmaid’s Tale—with award-winning actor Bradley Whitford (The Handmaid’s Tale, The West Wing). Set in the totalitarian Republic of Gilead, which has overthrown the United States, The Handmaid’s Tale emerged as a cautionary tale when published in 1985. Today, many readers consider it prophetic. The Testaments is set fifteen years after the events of Atwood’s classic novel and follows the lives of three women confronting their ties to Gilead. In an evening that promises to captivate, come away with a renewed dedication to democracy.

To attend this very special FREE virtual talk with Margaret Atwood, the purchase of a paperback copy of The Testaments from Chevalier’s Books is required. Those who have purchased the book from Chevalier’s will receive an email from Writers Bloc closer to the event date with a unique link to access the September 15 virtual talk. The first five hundred people to purchase the book from Chevalier’s will receive a signed copy of The Testaments.
