About the Program
Ancestors' Voices is a dance theater project from Donna Sternberg & Dancers that explores the field of epigenetics and generational inherited trauma including in the Jewish community.
The Jewish community has experienced exclusion and antisemitism for centuries, which has resulted in inherited intergenerational trauma. The company has focused on working with various Jewish populations, especially those who have been marginalized, such as people of color, Sephardic Jews (from the Iberian Peninsula), and Mizrahim (descendants of North Africa and the Middle East). Ancestors' Voices delves into healing by exploring how generations of exclusion and oppression can shape behavior and self-perception through generational and genetic trauma.
There will be a Q&A after the performance.
About the Company
Donna Sternberg & Dancers is a contemporary dance company with the goal to discover, transform, connect. We believe the act of discovery can be transformative and to this end we seek to build bridges and make connections between dance, science, the arts, and communities. We intentionally seek partnerships with artists, cultural organizations, scientists, and educational and science institutions to find innovative ways to probe the science/human connection through dance in collaboration with other art forms.
