The Power of Play

A young child gives two green toy apples to a puppet of a fox.

On Sunday, November 12, 2023, PBS screened the latest episode of their Peabody Award-winning series Craft in America at the Skirball. This episode featured the delightful artist-designed puppets that roam Noah's Ark at the Skirball. During the panel discussion following the screening, immersive theater maker Lisa Bierman explored the role of play and imagination in arts education with Skirball Vice President Rachel Stark, LAUSD classroom teacher Jane Fung, and CSUN Art Education professor Dr. Kristin Vanderlip Taylor.

“The beautiful thing about play is that you can do it at any age. And sometimes we forget that we can still play, but whatever play you engage in, it always brings joy and always a smile… I always smile at Noah's Ark, and I always find something new. [Play is] a safe way for us to communicate and be a community without any fear because we're just doing what comes natural[ly].” – Jane Fung
