About the Online Class

Over four illuminating sessions, these discussions will not only analyze political narratives in film, but will also dissect how costume design enhances storytelling, creates character, and reflects societal changes. By connecting cinematic masterpieces to current events and the artistry of designers, we will gain a deeper appreciation for the power of visual storytelling in both politics and fashion. Whether you're a film buff, a political junkie, or a fashion enthusiast, "Votes and Coats" promises to be an eye-opening experience that will forever change how you watch movies and interpret visual cues in the political arena. Space is limited, so reserve your spot now for this thought-provoking series where ballots meet blazers and democracy meets design!

Explore masterpieces of cinema, such as:

  • Lincoln (2012): Delve into Spielberg's meticulous recreation of Civil War-era America.
  • The Last Emperor (1987): Witness the fall of China's last dynasty through sumptuous visuals.
  • Gandhi (1982): Examine how simple attire contributes to the creation of a powerful political statement.
  • No (2012): Uncover the marketing campaign that toppled a dictatorship.
  • The Manchurian Candidate (1962): Analyze Cold War paranoia.
  • All the King's Men (1949): Observe the rise and fall of a political demagogue.
  • Seven Days in May (1964): Explore military coup aesthetics in American democracy.

Participants will have an opportunity to recommend and bring other films into our discussions.
