  • The Art of Dialogue: A Scriptwriting Residency with St. Mary’s Academy

    The stories we tell—around a dinner table, in the grocery checkout line, or even what we say to ourselves—shape our lives and the world we live in. Whose stories get told? Who gets to hear those stories? These are some of the questions we asked ourselves as we built the curriculum for a six-week residency with high schoolers at St. Mary's Academy in Inglewood.

    Shifting to distance education was no small feat. Yet this was the enormous challenge facing America’s teachers when stay-at-home orders went into effect in early 2020. Learn how LA teachers and Skirball educators sought learning from one another and drew strength in community.

    Learn how the Skirball brought the meaning and messages of Noah's Ark into classrooms online by collaborating with teachers to create a suite of streaming videos, downloadable lesson plans, remote teacher programs, and virtual field trips throughout the pandemic and beyond.

  • Sharing Seed-Planting Kits

    In the summer of 2020, Skirball educators assembled and delivered five hundred seed-planting kits to children across Los Angeles County.

    About 100 years ago, as war waged on around them, Reva Nebrat and her family fled northern Ukraine and took passage to the United States. In a suitcase, they packed a few photos, Reva’s favorite doll, and Shabbat candlesticks, among other meaningful belongings.
