Your Story: Memoir and Personal Essay

Tuesdays, January 24–March 14, 1:00–3:30 p.m. (8 sessions)

About the Program

Focused on memoir and the personal essay, develop and craft your work, studying the elements that enhance your writing and help your stories to cohere.

Tackle obstacles such as having no time to write, fear of what others will think, and confusion about structure, voice, and subject matter. In an informal, intimate setting, do writing exercises and receive class and instructor feedback through workshops and readings. Write just for yourself or with the goal of getting published.

Instructor: Amy Friedman has published four memoirs, three children’s books, and hundreds of stories and essays in magazines around the world. She is also a syndicated columnist of children’s stories. For over twenty years, she has taught personal essay and memoir in universities in Canada, at UCLA Extension, Case Western Reserve University, Idyllwild School of the Arts, and for PEN USA.
